Product Description

This "Gunar on Whale" platter is hand-carved in argillite in 1972 by Haida artist Ron Gitsgah Wilson. It features two inlays of abalone shell. It was acquired from a collection and is in very good condition.

This carving represents the Haida Story where Nanasimgit, or Gunar, saves his wife from the Undersea World, to which a Killer Whale had kidnapped and taken her.

The platter measures approximately 5 1/4 inches or 13 1/4 centimeters long, 3 7/8 inches or 9 3/4 centimeters wide, and about 7/8 of an inch or 2 1/4 centimeters thick.
