This Bukwas or Wild Man of the Woods Mask is hand-carved and signed by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Talon George from the Gwa’sala and ‘Nakwaxda’xw First Nations in Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. The mask has been carved from red cedar, painted in maroon and black acrylic, and features brown horsehair and cedar bark.

The Bukwus or Wild Man of the Woods is an eerie supernatural creature from the Kwakwaka’wakw Nation. This figure can be found lurking at the edge of a stream or in the shadows of the forest, always in search of souls that he can steal for himself.

On top of the mask at the back Talon carved a split skull design (see last image), in reference to the idea of the Wild Man of the Woods being a "Chief of Ghosts".

The mask measures approximately 16 inches or 41 centimeters high, 11 1/2 inches or 29 centimeters wide, and about 7 1/2 inches or 19 centimeters deep.
