This Wasgo platter was hand-carved in argillite by Haida artist Tom Hans. It was acquired from a collection and is in very good condition.

Wasco is a prominent mythological creature from Haida legend. It is a giant sea monster with the head and tail of Wolf and the dorsal fin and blowhole of Killer Whale. He has the ability to move both on land and in water, terrorizing Haida villages and hunting killer whales to feed his family.

The platter measures approximately 5 5/8 inches or 14 1/4 centimeters long, 4 1/4 inches or 10 1/2 centimeters wide, and about 5/8 of an inch or 1 1/2 centimeters thick.
