This Shark Pendant is hand-carved by Haida artist Gary Minaker-Russ. Is has been carved in argillite, with accents of catlinite or red pipestone and abalone.

The Dogfish Symbol or Shark Woman Symbol represents one of the most powerful and elusive supernatural beings of Haida mythology, a powerful shaman. The story of how she became a shaman of extraordinary power is now lost, but we know that her power came from the spirit of the Dogfish, of the Shark family.

The pendant measures approximately 2 1/8 inches or 5 1/2 centimeters high, 1 1/4 inches or 3 1/4 centimeters wide, and about 1/4 of an inch or 5/8 of a centimeter thick.

Included with the pendant is a black leather necklace (pictures) which is adjustable between 20 and 21 1/2 inches in length. If you prefer a silver chain, one is not included but can be purchased separately .
