These Shark earrings are hand-carved in yellow cedar by Haida artist Leon Ridley.

The Dogfish or Shark Symbol represents independence and decisiveness. The Dogfish is a common crest amongst the Haida people and is often depicted with a downturned mouth, sharp teeth and round eyes. They are solitary creatures, often feared by those who spend time on the open sea.

Each earrings, excluding the hook, measures approximately 7/8 of an inch or 2 1/4 centimeters high, 9/16 of an inch or 1 1/2 centimeters wide, and 3/16 of an inch or 1/2 of a centimeter thick.
