Product Description

This Grizzly Bear Panel is hand-carved by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Sean Whonnock. Made from red cedar, the panel has been deeply carved, and painted in red, black, copper, white, and light blue acrylic. It is adorned with 16 abalone inlays.

The panel features a central Grizzly Bear design. Carved into the tongue of the Bear is a human figure, symbolizing a human who was devoured by the bear. At the bottom is another human figure. Framing the human figure are two Bear paws, with Eagles on them. At the top of the panel is a Eagle without a beak. The story goes that due, to the Eagles greed and overconsumption of fish, the Eagle lost its beak.

The panel measures approximately 24 inches or 61 centimeters in diameter and 1 3/4 inches or 4 1/2 centimeters thick.
