Product Description

This Dzunukwa/Wild Woman of the Woods Mask is hand-carved by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Gilbert Dawson. It has been carved from red cedar, painted in black, red, and white acrylic and is adorned with horse hair.

The Wild Woman of the Woods is a supernatural being. She goes by many names including Tsonoqua, Tsonokwa, Dzunuk’wa, Zuniquwa, Th’owxiya, The Giantess, The Ogress, and Wealth Giver. This being is often considered female, but may be depicted as male or female.

The mask, including the hair, measures approximately 14 inches or 35 1/2 centimeters wide, 28 inches or 71 1/2 centimeters high, and about 7 inches or 17 1/2 centimeters deep.
