This Eagle Bentwood Box is by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Trevor Hunt. This natural wood Bentwood box has sides of yellow cedar and a lid and base of red cedar. It features a beautiful and contemporary Eagle design painted in sage green and black on all four sides.

The Eagle Symbol is known as “The master of skies” and is a symbol of great significance. He is believed to be the creature with the closest relationship with the creator. Soaring to great heights, he can travel between the physical and the spiritual world. He is said to be a messenger to the creator.

Bentwood boxes are unique to the First Nations people of the Northwest Coast. Boxes are made from a single plank of red or yellow cedar that is grooved on each corner, steam-bent, and then folded to form the four sides. The two ends are pegged together before the addition of the base and the lid. This ingenious method makes the boxes both beautiful and watertight.

With the red cedar lid, this box measures nearly 10 inches or 25 1/4 centimeters high, 8 1/2 inches or 21 1/2 centimeters wide, and 8 1/2 or 21 1/2 centimeters deep.
