Product Description

This Esperanza limited edition signed print was created by Nuu-chah-nulth artist Joshua Prescott. Joshua has created unique variants within this edition of prints - while some prints have been silkscreened only, others have the addition of hand-painted design elements. This print has silkcreened design elements in black and red, and hand-painted design elements in blue.

"Esperanza means hope in the Spanish language. The Ehattesaht people of the Nuu-chah-nulth nation call the place tlay maak tsu which they used as a resting and stopover place for canoeing travellers.

Esperanza as it is known today was founded in 1937, it exists to promote healing and restoration in a place of peaceful refuge.

Our non-profit society Taking Back Our Culture Association held a Nuu-Chah-Nulth language camp in Esperanza. The following are a few who helped make the project possible First Peoples Heritage Language and Culture Council, elders Katie Fraser,
Stanley Sam, Sidney Sam, Doreen Sam, Ehattesaht tribe, Victoria Wells, and the kind people who run Esperanza.

The place is awe-inspiring. I felt a lot of peace and content. This print was created from the
memories I have of the wildlife and the overall beauty and feeling that is tlay maak tsu (Esperanza).

Thank you kleco-kleco."

- Joshua Prescott

The print is about 22 inches or 55 3/4 centimeters square and has an edition size of 112.

The print for sale does not include a frame.
