Product Description

This Beaver Transformation Mask is hand-carved in alder wood and signed by Kwakwaka'wakw artist Talon George from the Gwa’sala and ‘Nakwaxda’xw First Nations in Port Hardy on Vancouver Island.

This transformation mask tells the story of Na̱mugwi'ḵa'nakw – beaver in the process of transforming into man. When he was transformed into a human from his beaver form everything changed, but his teeth and tail remained. This is the story of how the Nakwaxda’xw people came to be. It is said the carving skills of the 'Nakwaxda’xw come from the beaver.

The Beaver Symbol teaches people to be productive and not limit their options. He teaches us to be persistent and to use available resources. The Beaver helps people understand the dynamics of teamwork and to appreciate each individual’s talents and contributions in order to accomplish anything.
